Learning objective #1: Examine how attitudes towards linguistic standards empower and oppress language users
In writing my Language and Literacy narrative I was able to see the varying perspectives people may have. For example some people believe that there are standard/superior ways of speaking english which leads to the oppression of people who may speak english differently that are deemed “unstandardly”.

Learning objective #2: In writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.
In reading different styles of writing I had gained a broader perspective on different situations and understandings about one topic. One writing that really helped me was Amy Tan’s mother tongue in sharing her experience with language and literacy.

Learning Objective #3: Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.
With this objective I learned to integrate ideas from different/previous sources to gain a further understanding. An example of this is when writing a lot of pieces I had remembered Jamila Lyiscott’s 3 ways to speak english and it helped me integrate other ideas into my writings.

Learning Objective #4: Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations.
I learned that when practicing rhetorical terms in writing situations, it helps convey tone and intent depending on the terms and strategies. I saw this a lot in June Jordan’s Nobody mean more to me than you, where there were a lot of strategies used to convey tone and intention.

Learning Objective #5: Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences.
With this objective I was able to find the proper audiences through how the writing is portrayed. I did this by catering to the agreeing audience while also exploring the opposing audience through persuasion/use of images and gifs. An example of this is my translation 2 assignment.

Learning objective #6 Locate research sources in the libraries database or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy. timelines, and bias.
I expanded on this prompt when writing my synthesis essay and this helps you with credibility and reinforcement of the intended message. I did this by using multiple different types of sources.

Learning Objective #7: Compose texts that integrate a stance with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, analysis, synthesis, and argumentation.
Doing this establishes credibility and perspective with proper information. I expanded on this objective in my L&L essay by incorporating integrating texts like summary and analysis.

Learning Objective #8: Practice systematic application of citation conventions.
Through this learning objective I learned what it meant to cite properly and to do this I would search for revised and credible sources. I expanded on this in my synthesis essay when searching for sources.
